Mantia's Cooking Classes

We are please to offer the cooking class schedule for the second quarter of 2008. We have a lot of good ones planned.

All classes are at 6:00 PM, and cost $35 per person. Since most of the classes fill up, advance reservations are requested. Give us a call to sign up or for more information.

Tuesday, May 13: "Turkish Delights" The country honored by this year's Memphis In May festival can boast of a rich culinary heritage. At the end of the Mediterranean, it draws on all the countries around it to create its own unique cuisine. We'll do a full dinner of Turkish treats.

Wednesday, May 21: "Tapas and Good Times" In Spain, each small town, or neighborhood in a larger town, has an area of tapas bars. Each offers small plates of local specialties to tide folks over until the very late Spanish dinner hour. It's a great way to entertain: you can have a cocktail party, or make a full meal out of them. We'll learn to make a big bunch of them!

Tuesday, June 2: "Pack It Up" With summertime and the outdoor concert season here, let's learn how to pack a delightful picnic. We'll do two kinds: rustic and extra-fancy. We will cover how to prepare, how to pack, what to bring, food safety, and lots of ideas.

Wednesday, June 11: "There's No Such Thing as Too Much Garlic" Or at least that's what Alyce thinks! We'll make a full dinner, from appetizer to...maybe even dessert? This is a popular class, and the menu changes each time.

Tuesday, June 24: "The Thrill of the Grill" Everyone's favorite summertime stove! And it's not just for steaks and burgers. Keep your kitchen cool, and let's cook a delightful and delicious meal as yummy and flavorful as summer itself.

Saturday, June 7: Each quarter we do an olive oil tasting. We'll open a dozen or so bottles for a blind tasting, including some we would NEVER try to sell you. We'll discuss the difference between a $5 bottle and a $25 bottle, and talk about the differences between the oils of various countries and regions. This tasting is $25 and includes wine to cleanse your palate at the end.

We have been asked a number of times if we can do private cooking class parties. The answer is "Of course!" We will be happy to help you plan a dinner party class, a bridal or baby shower class, a birthday party class...just let us know what you have in mind and we'll work with you!
